Why am I seeing competitor ads?

During our onboarding process we will fill out a blocklist for your account which will be a list of Advertisers or URLs you do not wish to appear on your site. We will then set up this blocklist across all of the partner networks that are bidding on your inventory. This should hopefully block them from ever appearing, however sometimes they can slip through these block settings.

Why?

Could be a few reasons for this.

  • We have blocked the advertiser name and/or URL, however they may be coming through the parent company instead. We should block parent companies too.

  • A new network has gone live without a block list in place. We will check all of this when we receive a block request.

  • Google runs remarketing campaigns through other networks, like Index Exchange, and these can bypass blocklists. A remarketing campaign from Google will include many different campaigns and the network will not know which campaigns are included. This is why the ad bypasses the existing blocklist. If we see this happening on your site, we will hunt down the campaign responsible and remove that campaign from delivering on your site. This process will require more time to resolve but should be able to be done within 24 hours.
